Q & A with Marcus Kaiser

Marcus Kaiser, 32 years old from Gussenstadt in Germany. Marcus is the son of Thomas Kaiser and Magret Kaiser (previous drivers of the Pulling Tractors) and the older brother of the 2016 German Super Stock Champion Christoph Kaiser (driver of Best Solution). He's also develop and building Pulling parts (Kaiser Performance) for other Teams in Europe.

pullingworld.com: What are you doing in your normal life?
Marcus Kaiser: I´m working as mechanical engineer in the area of process development and CAD/CAM support in a company for CNC machines.

pullingworld.com: What do you like to do in your free time, except Tractor Pulling?
Marcus Kaiser: If there is free time beside Tractor Pulling and Kaiser Performance, I spent it with my wife, friends and family.

pullingworld.com: What do you like on Tractor Pulling?
Marcus Kaiser: The possibility to create something to your own mind and ideas and find out if this will work - work better than others. I like the horsepower and technology behind every single motor and tractor setup. Tractor Pulling is kind of big family all over the world. Having one topic together with people doesn´t matter where they come from, is one of the things I like the most. The sound!!

pullingworld.com: What was your first Tractor Pulling event?
Marcus Kaiser: I don´t really remember. Must be Krumbach or Seifertshofen sometime in 1993.

pullingworld.com: What is your favourite Event / Pulling track?
Marcus Kaiser: I really like Bernay (F). The atmosphere and the crowd is amazing – one big party the whole night.  For German competition I like Haßmoor and Edewecht for usually having food power-tracks.

pullingworld.com: When and where do you have driven a Pulling Tractor for the first time?
Marcus Kaiser: This must be at Füchtorf (D) in 1998. It was a Super Stock Garden Puller with a VW-Golf diesel pump, a smart turbo and water injection. 1999 I stepped over to GP-Modified and 2001 started with one of our Super Stock´s at the age of 16.

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest success?
Marcus Kaiser: I don´t give that much on countable successes. We won several German titel´s as a Team and we also had good years in Euro Cup to be proud of. But for me the biggest success is to be still here in game and compete with all the others on a high level of Tractor Pulling with the possibilities we have as team and family. For example: We had a bad season in 2015 when we stepped back on the track after a four  year absence, caused by a lot of work aside Pulling. We had to struggle with a lot of technical problems, and needed to learn a lot about what pulling changed in only four years (competition, technic, driving dutys,…). We needed to redefine our team intern procedures to find good performance. In 2016 we captured the title after a very tough season with a lot of work on the tractor to keep it up 100%. Well, we profited of unreliableness by other competitors, but we made top performance on 6 of 7 events. So that's one kind of big success for me…

pullingworld.com: Which Pulling classes do you like too?
Marcus Kaiser: I like them all. But most I like the ones with a “hood”. I really enjoy good Pro Stock classes and also Farm Pulling preferably Sport and Super Sport events.

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest disappointment?
Marcus Kaiser: Second Chance crash at Füchtorf (D) in 2011!

pullingworld.com: Which things must be change in the future of the Tractor Pulling sport?
Marcus Kaiser: I think, we have a good trend of Pulling in Germany. Events increased from 4 in 2015 over 7 last year, to 10 in 2017 season (10 national events is enough). Farm Pulling is importand and people there make very nice work  - Tractor Pulling and Farm Pulling needs each other!
To name things that needs to be changed is not that easy (for me). I would like to see pulling on a more professional level but doubt that most of us can bring up the budget  or/and the time for maintenance to keep up top performance on 100% over  ten and more events. It is hard to get sponsors that support your pulling business in a way you can stay competitive. I think this is also owed to less media presence in the past. At the moment we have a good media support of TP due to the DMAX documentation “FULL PULL” and I hope this will continue in 2017 (dosn´t matter what teams take part in it – main thing: it continues to promote the sport). But to answer your question: more media presence of TP, uniform tracks to be able to rely on your setup, more events on Saturday instead of Sunday.

pullingworld.com: What's your plans for the future in Tractor Pulling?
Marcus Kaiser: Too much to mention. Some of them:

- We want to extend Kaiser Perfomance to cover a wider range of parts and services to keep our customers on top performance.

- We start to build up the Second Chance as a Component in early 2017 to get back on the track as soon as possible (2018!!??)

- Ride a good 2017 season with Best Solution on good level to keep up good performance over ten events.

pullingworld.com: What was for you the most important moment in the sport?
Marcus Kaiser: To realize, that pulling is not only about “who´s first, second, third,…” Pulling is a way of life and only a big, competitive hell of a show !

pullingworld.com: What was your favourite Pulling Tractor project in the workshop during a winter?
Marcus Kaiser: I don't really have favourites. They are all special to me. But the best we ever built is the current version of Best Solution. We stay very competitive with that small block Johny as a original Super Stock. We know about it´s limits in power an balance, but its always a pleasure to see it “nose up” running down the track.

pullingworld.com: Something you want to say?
Marcus Kaiser: I want to thank everyone that spents days and nights in the shop for being able to roll on the track  again someday. We are all crazy and we know about it – yes, we really like it! Keep up the good work where ever you guys are.
I want to thank God and my family for being home, team and friend during tough seasons. Thank my wife Jenny for choosing a “mad pulling man” and all the concessions in time she made in a tough 2016 –Thank you!
May god will bless us all in 2017season. Stay tuned!!!

pullingworld.com: Thank you for your time and good luck!
